What is the Hanta Virus?
Hantaviruses are a family of RNA viruses spread by rodents. The Andes hantavirus is notable
for being one of the few hantaviruses capable of person-to-person transmission. It can cause hantavirus
pulmonary syndrome (HPS), a severe respiratory disease with a high mortality rate. The current
outbreak is linked to the MV Hondius expedition cruise ship.
